Founding Story
In January 2024, Patrick Gremmels and Walter Borchert decided to combine their M&A experience with their entrepreneurial spirit and embark on a new adventure. Having honed their skills at the global firm DLA Piper and the M&A boutique JB Law, Patrick and Walter sought to build something of their own – a M&A firm that breaks away from the traditional model. Thus, Alpex was born.

Meet the driving force behind Alpex
Patrick Gremmels
Patrick is a co-founder of Alpex. Patrick spent the first 9 years of his career at DLA Piper, before joining the partnership of JB Law in 2020. Since 2024, Patrick is heading Alpex together with Walter. Whether he’s assisting entrepreneurs in realizing their dreams or guiding private equity investors through complex deal-structures, Patrick’s commitment to getting the deal done is unwavering. He’s dedicated to providing strategic legal advice that empowers his clients to succeed in the ever-evolving world of M&A and private equity.

Walter Borchert
Walter is a co-founder of Alpex. Walter commenced his career at DLA Piper, where he first crossed paths with co-founder Patrick Gremmels. After 5 years Walter continued his career at JB Law, where he advised numerous client on Dutch mid-market M&A transactions. Walter’s keen understanding of the dynamics of mid-market transactions play a pivotal role in shaping the Alpex’ success. His strategic vision, coupled with a proactive legal approach, positions Walter as a front runner for Alpex’s commitment to redefining the landscape of M&A.
Beyond the world of law, you’ll find Walter and Patrick in their element when they are in the mountains, taking to the slopes to ski, cruising on their motorcycles or exploring nature’s wonders through hiking. This love for the outdoors not only enriches their life but also brings a fresh perspective to their legal work.

Max Bierkens
Max is a senior associate at Alpex. Max previously worked at Loyens & Loeff and De Roos, where he worked on M&A and venture capital transactions but also gained experience in corporate strategy. The strategic mindset and insights that Max developed with this work make that he sees the big picture without missing a beat on the details. Acting on behalf of founders and investors alike, Max communicates complex legal issues and advice in a simple yet effective manner. This has earned him appreciation and trust from both clients and counterparties.
Outside of work hours, Max keeps an active lifestyle including kiteboarding, skiing, cycling and running.
